The part that really annoys me most in the above is the blaming of civil servants. It doesn't matter what Civil Servants do, they're (apparently) always wrong, either they don't do anything and are overpaid for it, or it's their fault that Rody Molloy got such a high pension!

Wasn't he paid to keep his mouth shut? The government know that if it goes to court, win or lose, a lot of bad stuff will come out.

The saddest part of all of this for me, is, that, with the quality of journalism we have in this country, Ahern will never again have to be answerable for the crap he spouted today. The internet does not count, unfortunately..........yet.

the reason he was given a pay off was because the gov at the time was maintaining he did no wrong therefore didn't have reason to fire him, only when a board member (under fire themselves) said in the media that he withheld info was withheld, did coughlan suggest there was way to fire him, although think that s been known for long time.

the gov's misplaced loyalty created their own problem

Ahern comment: "And if it was a case that this man [Rody Molloy] went to court subsequently – and even might still go to court – you would have a protracted High Court action, possibly a Supreme Court action, which would cost the taxpayer much much more.”" CAN I ASK: Based on this logic, WHY would a government bring an expensive court action against someone for not paying €160.00 TV license? This guy was guilty of something hence the immediate exit. No investigation tells it all!
